Move-Out Day

We ask that students leave within 24 hours of their last exam in order to support the academic atmosphere required for students who are still studying for final exams.

Move-Out Checklist

  • Clean your room/suite/apartment. (Including your kitchen and bathroom where applicable.)
  • Return your room/suite/apartment to original check-in condition by de-bunking any beds you bunked and ensuring all furniture is accessible and not blocked.
  • Remove all trash and debris to exterior dumpsters.
  • Leave your rented bed loft and rented refrigerator in the room (if applicable). Please empty and clean the refrigerator, throw away unwanted items in the outside dumpsters, and leave the refrigerator plugged in.
  • When actively loading, move vehicle to a designated loading zone (do not block fire lanes).
  • Display the Move-Out Unloading/Loading Permit on your car dashboard.
  • Bring your hand truck or dolly from home (yellow carts will be limited during move-out).
  • Remove all your belongings from your room/suite/apartment. Don’t forget your bike!
  • Ensure you have not left any personal belongings behind.
  • Close and lock all windows, close blinds/shades, and turn off all lights.
  • Close and lock your door(s).
  • Check your mailbox for important documents. Your mailbox combination is located in the Housing Portal. Pick up any remaining packages you may have from your Service Desk.
  • Return your residence hall key(s) to your Service Desk. Late/mailed keys will NOT be accepted.

Please note: Room Inspections will occur after the last resident has completely vacated the room/semi-suite/suite/apartment.

Late Stay Requests

Residents who are unable to leave by 7:00 p.m. Friday, May 17, 2024 (this includes graduating seniors) must request a Late Stay by Tuesday, May 14 at 4:00 p.m.

If you are approved for a Late Stay, you will continue to have access to your current space after 7:00 p.m. Friday, May 17 until your Late Stay Approval Deadline.

Mail & Packages

Service desks will stop accepting mail and packages starting on Friday, May 17. You should plan to pick up any pending deliveries by 7:00 p.m. on Friday, May 17 at the latest. All mail and packages received after May 17 will be returned to its sender.

Remember to change your online subscription address (i.e., medication, food delivery, Amazon, etc.) before moving out. 

Terp Move-Out Donation Drive

All other unwanted items such as carpets, electronics, and/or refrigerators must be taken to designated pallet areas located outside the residence halls near the dumpsters. Failure to remove all belongings will result in charges billed to your student account.

Residents who do not return key(s) on or before Friday, May 17 at 7:00 p.m. will be billed for a Lock Core Change in the amount of $110.00. This will be posted to your student account. (Suites/Apartments: you may also be charged $10 for a bedroom recut.)

A temporary swipe replacement is $20.00 and a Sabbath key replacement is $200.00.

Note: Keys will NOT be accepted by mail and must be returned in person to your Community Service Desk.

A select number of spaces will be identified by move-out loading zone signs.

Parking Information

Please follow all Department of Transportation Services (DOTS) parking guidelines. For more information regarding parking, please visit the DOTS website. You must be actively packing your vehicle to use a designated loading zone.

Regular parking restrictions apply outside of loading/unloading zones. If you have a current DOTS permit, park in your designated parking spot.

  • Never park in, obstruct, or leave vehicles unattended in fire lanes. Vehicles parked in fire lanes are subject to being ticketed and/or towed.
  • Sidewalks are NOT roadways. Please do not enter any gated areas (even if gates are open) and do not drive, park, or load on any sidewalks.

If your roommate(s) caused any damage to your room/suite/apartment, talk with your roommate and have your roommate accept responsibility for the damage by documenting it in writing through an email to If you have questions, contact your Resident Director.

Students will typically receive an email from the Department of Resident Life by early July instructing them to view their Room Condition Report in MyDRL which will detail their charges. The charges will also be posted to your student account in early July or August.

Students who actually use tools to disassemble their beds and turn them upside down to make their bed taller, MUST put the beds back in the original arrangement. Failure to do so will result in a financial charge.

A representative from Collegiate Marketing will pick up your product after the residence halls close. 

Refrigerators rented from My Fridge Rental need to be defrosted and cleaned. A representative will pick up your product after the residence halls close.
