Two Options for Move-In

Two Options for Move-In

We have arranged for two move-in options to provide you and your family with flexibility and to allow for a smooth move-in process with as little traffic congestion as possible. All move-in times will be by appointment only.

You must make an appointment through the Housing Portal, regardless of which move-in option you choose. You will be able to make an appointment beginning Monday, July 19, at 9:00 AM.

Students who arrive without an appointment will not be able to move in and will need to schedule an appointment for another day.

If you have questions about the move-in process, please email us at fallhousing@umd.edu with your full name, 9-digit UID number, and your question or call (301) 314-2100.

The “Set-Up and Go” option provides you the opportunity to schedule an appointment to move belongings into your residence hall room in advance of the residence halls opening for fall semester; when there is less traffic, competition for parking and elevators, and provide students the opportunity to get your room set up in advance of move-in weekend.

We strongly encourage any student who lives within a reasonable driving distance of the University of Maryland to select this option.

By selecting this option, you will come to campus to prepare your residence hall room in advance and then return to campus for the semester at their assigned time.

  • Set-Up and Go appointments will be offered from Wednesday, August 18 through Saturday, August 21, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
  • This option will allow you to check-in and move most of your belongings into your residence hall, set up your room, and then return home until your official arrival date the following week, August 26-29.
  • You may not stay in your room at the time of your Set-Up and Go appointment.
  • The second part of the Set-Up and Go move-in is Curbside Drop-off. At your designated date and time, you will return to campus to be dropped off at your residence hall. Your curbside dropoff appointment is auto-assigned after you schedule your Setup and Go appointment.
  • Since most of your belongings will be moved in the week before and secured in your room, we ask that you get dropped off curbside on your arrival day with minimal “carry on” items - for example, your backpack, laptop, and a duffel bag.
  • Curbside drop-off for new to housing students is Thursday, August 26 and Friday, August 27; and for returning residents Saturday, August 28, and Sunday, August 29.

This option is intended for students who live a further distance from the campus and for whom splitting their move-in into two trips would present a hardship.

If you select this option, you will move in all your belongings during the main move-in period and begin your stay in your room at that time as well.

  • Appointments will be offered between Thursday, August 26, through Sunday, August 29 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
  • First-year students selecting this option will choose from move-in appointments on Thursday, August 26, or Friday, August 27.
  • Returning residents selecting this option will choose from move-in appointments on Saturday, August 28, or Sunday, August 29.

Important Notes for Both Options

  • You can schedule your move-in appointment beginning Monday, July 19. To schedule your appointment, log in to your Housing Portal.
  • All check-ins will take place at XFINITY Center on the second floor concourse. During check-in, new students will pick up your room key(s) and student ID, and complete your meal plan bioscan. Returning students will pick up room key(s). After you’ve checked in at XFINITY Center, you can proceed to your residence hall.
  • A limited number of our yellow moving carts will be available to support move-in for students and families who choose to use them. We also encourage you to consider bringing your own hand truck or dolly to expedite your move-in process.

Vaccination Requirement Reminders

The health and safety of our community are our fundamental priorities. We are committed to ongoing work to mitigate the spread of COVID-19. COVID-19 vaccinations are required for all students, faculty and staff returning to campus this fall semester, as announced by the University System of Maryland Chancellor.

Students who are not in compliance with the campus' vaccination requirement will not be allowed to move in or live in University-owned residence halls. Confirm your vaccination status at Keep Terps Safe Portal.

For more information about the vaccine or if you have questions about the requirement, please visit the COVID-19 Vaccine Information webpage to review a list of frequently asked questions. You may also email healthconcerns@umd.edu with additional questions.
