We are open from 6pm-9pm on Sunday through Thursday.

No, Math Success is absolutely free!

Math Coaches can offer help for all Math courses, but typically most students are seeking help in MATH 140/141 and MATH 220/221. We always try to staff Coaches who can help with Statistics - please inquire when you arrive to be directed to the appropriate Coach.

Collaborate Study Groups is a partnership Math Success has with the Syn*Quest Collaborative. They pair a veteran coach/group leader with a particular class and have that leader work with a group of students taking that class. This semester we are offering Collaborative Study Groups for Math 140 and 141.The Math 140 and Math 141 groups will meet from 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. from Monday through Thursday

No, this is NOT usual and we make every effort to prevent waiting. However, on nights before exams Math Success can get busy, and we appreciate your patience.

No, our Coaches are there to help you understand concepts and figure out problems but not to do your homework for you.

We have some textbooks for the more common classes we see at Math Success, but if you have a question about something specifically in the textbook or are taking a class outside of 115, 140, 141, or 220 you might want to bring your book.

While we specialize in Math courses, many of our Coaches have experience in other areas, including physics, engineering, economics, and more. As long as your questions are related to the math concepts of those courses, we will do our best to assist you.

Yes.

Yes, except for a Scholars CSG held in the Centreville Multipurpose Room.

You can come to Math Success as often or as little as you want/need. If you have a one-time question you can just come that one time, but if you need continuous help over the entire semester you can come every day we are open!

We do not have a printer available at Math Success so if you would like something printed please do so before you come.

Our coaches stop work at 9 PM and the area we work in must be locked at that time, so we are not able to allow anyone to stay after 9 PM.

There is a water fountain and restroom facilities at Math Success, but no vending machines.

Typically no, Coaches are undergraduate students. Some may have jobs as Math TA's but it is not a requirement of the Coach position.

Because we operate on a walk-in basis, we cannot guarantee one-on-one coaching. Depending on what class you need help with and how many students come in, we will do our best to work with all the students that come in.

Our Coaches are trained to help you work through the concepts for your questions and allow you to figure out the answer with guidance. They should not simply figure out the answer and give it to you.

We believe that coaching is a more collaborative relationship where the coach helps you more deeply understand the concepts behind the problems. We believe this approach will help you gain a fuller and longer lasting understanding of the concepts rather than just get through the homework.

Sunday through Thursday from 6-9 PM

No! You can come as often or as little as you want.

We typically accept applications twice a year for Math Coaches. These usually happen in November and March for starting at the beginning of the following semester. A detailed job description and requirements will be available whenever the application is open. View our employment page to check for job postings in Resident Life.

Mondays are historically our busiest nights and Thursdays tend to be the least busy.

No, Math Success is only open during academic weeks of the Fall and Spring semesters.

The entrance to Math Success is located on the Northeast side of the building (toward Lot 2). There is a large sign that says "North Campus Community Office and Academic Enrichment Center" at the top of some stairs. Go down those stairs or the connected ramp and you will come to a door in front of a desk. Math Success is right inside and the person at the desk can help direct you.

You should bring your homework and a pen/pencil. Sometimes a calculator and class notes can be helpful. If you have WebAssign you can bring a laptop because Math Success is wireless.

No, Math Success is a walk-in tutoring program. You can stop by any time between 6pm – 9pm and receive tutoring.
