Community Assistant Position
What are the requirements to apply for the Community Assistant position?

Community Assistants Photo CAs must be University of Maryland students and preference is given to students who live on campus and specifically in the community of need. CAs are expected to work an average of 10 hours per week, including at least one overnight shift per week between the hours of 12 a.m. and 9 a.m. CAs also work approximately one weekend a month and should expect to work 4-5 shifts (15 hours) during that weekend.

In addition to weekly Service Desk shifts, CAs must attend mandatory weekly staff meetings. Staff meetings are typically held Sunday through Thursday starting between the hours of 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. Specific staff meeting times/dates will be determined at the beginning of the semester.

The desks may remain in operation during University breaks and holidays. CA staff will be expected to work a minimum of one break period (Thanksgiving, Winter or Spring) throughout the year.

CAs return to campus in mid-August and mid-January before the halls open and must be available through late-May for move out at the end of each semester. Further details about start/end dates will be shared after a hire offer is made. Mandatory training for the Fall 2021 semester will take place in August (typically 1-2 weeks before the semester begins).
